2nd shift. - Work
Posted on: 2010-02-01 12:42:10

Today is going to be my first day on my permanent shift...in about an hour. I have little to no idea what I am going to be doing, but whatever I end up doing tonight will probably be what I am doing for the next few weeks. I am both a little apprehensive and excited. I am also curious how long it is going to take to get into the swing of things and to stop feeling immense amounts of pain after a days work. Now I suppose I should start getting ready.

So how did it go? Did you feel like a dancer again?

For the first 2-3 hours I was bored out of my mind. The line I was on (a shuttle) runs two molds, normally ones with a 2 minute cycle time. Last night I started with a single 5 minute mold. It was annoying to unload (liked to get stuck), but loading was easy. Lots of down time. Then, I got a 2 minute mold for the other side. It had about 200 little pieces of wet plastic that needed to be loaded every 2 minutes.

Rapid movement plus spending about half my time leaning over the loader plates has killed my back again. I am hoping that one of the two molds will get switched out to something simpler.
