Brain Food: Terrible tuna rice. - Food - Design
Posted on: 2007-07-10 11:34:32

I have been been recently been working redesigning and refunctioning Zen Cart for Katie. Even with the amount of work I have put in (easily 6-8hr/day for the past week or so) I still have a lot of work left. I am starting to get used to the file structure and just what I can and can't edit/move/delete so productivity has taken a huge spike in the past two days. But who cares, this isn't supposed to be a progress post. It is supposed to be a food post.

Today, we are going to talk about my terrible tuna rice...because I just made some, and it was good. I have two varieties, neither are spectacular in any way (most would probably say terrible), and neither will win any awards for presentation, taste, health value, or well, palatability. But I am going to give them to you anyways.

So what you will need a little over a cup of white (minute) rice, water, gratuitous amounts of salt and pepper, a teaspoon (or tablespoon, who cares) of worcestershire sauce, and a 3oz can of tuna (think catfood not albacore). Toss everything except the tuna in a microwave safe dish and cook for an appropriate for your microwave amount of time (and yes, appropriate for your microwave amount of time is an actual measurement...damn imperial system). Add in tuna once rice is done. Occasionally, I will add some shredded chedar at this point. Now mentally prepare yourself for the next minute while the rice and tuna reach a temperature equilibrium (temperature equilibrium is important, don't ask, just fucking do it), then enjoy...or well, eat.

Now, I mentioned there were two varieties. The one I just listed is the spicy version. It is great as a midnight meal when you still have a lot to do. It helps to shock your system awake some (and don't get me started about the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids...go tuna!) so you can get more coding done. Anyways, the other variety is nearly identical except you replace the worcestershire sauce with white vinegar, hold off on nearly all the pepper, add slightly more salt, and, um, no cheese if you did that step.

So there you have it, two varieties of terrible tuna rice to help you stave off hunger. Oh, and as small update to my last post: gparted worked perfectly!

Spices

I'm think some Cyanne (I'm sure the spelling is wrong) pepper (probably not more than a dash) would help spice it up. That's the pepper we use in our gumbo. Spices that up nicely.

Or Tabasco sauce. Gotta love Tabasco. I think it has cayenne in it, though.

Sometimes when I'm trying to stay awake (or just bored), I'll do Tabasco shots.

Damn you tuna!!!@@@!!!!!!1!!!!!!!
