Tough night. - Hol - WoW - Games - Site News

Sometimes things just break. I know this. I wish they didn't, but well, they do. Last night...on to about ten minutes ago...I had major fits with both WoW and HoL. The problems were obviously unrelated, but still incredibly annoying. I am kinda glad that WoW is running out sometime in the next 48 hours and that HoL is not something I am getting paid for so I can take a break from it as well.

WoW: Punkboy jumped over to Drenden (the main server me and the wife play on) last night. Like anyone who plays WoW, we started talking about addons. CT_mailmod was the first he mentioned, and it sounded nice. It is a mass mailer for sending multiple items to other people in the mail (normally you have to manually send a letter per item you are sending). Knowing how much me and the wife mail things to our alts and to each other, I jumped all over it. I headed over to wowinterface.com, grabbed a copy, installed it, and got an incompatible message. I think the forums and there were a couple of links to CT_mod, which is the generic CT mod and includes CT_mailmod. I was a little hesitant at first, but ended up installing it anyways. After about twenty minutes of custimization of the CT_mod, I was ready to play...until I noticed that the majority of my other addons were not working. All of the mods that were broken revolved around an addon set called fubar, which adds a bar on the top and bottom of the screen that you can add stuff to...like all the mods that I use. After another twenty or so minutes of playing, I uninstalled the CT_mod addon only to find all my other addons were still broken. I started to panic a little, but figured there had to be a solution.

After about 1.5 hours, the solution ended up being a total purge of my addons and settings directories and starting from scratch. I was able to retreive the settings for a couple of my mods, but sadly only a few. So I spent a little over two hours working on addons for a game I won't be playing in 48 hours.

HoL: I have now spent the last three days working on the edit item code trying to logic out how it should work. Last night I had an epiphany and got the entire first part working perfectly. I spent a considerable time testing it to make sure it was doing what I thought it was doing and reguardless of how I tried to break it, it just worked. So I moved on to the next part, and while debugging that...a totally unrelated part of the code...the previous part broke all to hell. I can't even get it to work right now. Not a single part of it is working like it should, and I have no idea why. Insert a couple of hours working on it, still not working, and I am just sitting here annoyed.

UNDO?

I hate how programing will do that to you. And it always seems that there isn't any easy undo either. Sometimes I would save with revisions so I can go back to an earlier versions. Good luck getting it back.
