Merry Christmas from SOE: You are suspended!!! - EverQuest - Games
Posted on: 2006-12-19 16:27:44

After checking my bazaar sells in EverQuest (yeah, I started back about a week or so ago), I rebooted my computer to shed off some lag and tried to log back in only to get a message that my account had been suspended. After about 20 minutes on hold with customer service, I find that it was due to "inappropriate language". I know I use obscenities on my blog and in real life where appropriate, but I only do in game with people I know in real life (ie tBoMM, because he is the only one I know who plays). When dealing with other people in game; I don't bad mouth people; I don't talk about politics (other than to say I don't follow them); I am not racist; and I only rarely talk about religeon. Hell, generally I don't bother talking to people at all.

I did not go into that with the guy. I was calm and nonconfrontational...imagine that. After hearing the reason, I paused for a second then asked how I could contest it. He said that they research every instance carefully going through chat logs and there was no way to contest it. I asked him where I could find out just what was said that led to my suspension and he told me that there was not a way, but my account would be reacctivated in seven days. I thanked him for his time. He asked if there was anything else I needed help with, I said no that I already knew how to cancel my accout.

So yeah, a seven day suspension for "inappropriate language". I have no idea what was inappropriate an no way of finding out. Oh, and I can't cancel my account because it is suspended...I can't make changes to it.

Another reason I don't fuck around with MMOs anymore.

The random stupidity of the mods. I'm sure they might have gotten your name confused with someone else.

FU EQ.

Seriously... inappropriate language sounds questionable. Isn't that what language filters are for? Cursing seems a lame reason to suspend anyone. I doubt anyone under the age of 18 plays EQ anyway, which would make a suspension for language even more lame. You didn't go on a Michael Richards-esque racist rant did you? :)

That is nuts

When Erin told me this, the first thing I thought was "He doesn't hardly chat to begin with." Stupid SOE.

That's crap

What I think is really pathetic is that they won't let you contest it or even see what you said in the chat. Crappity crap crap.

So let me get this straight....

in a game that's all about murdering piles upon piles of creatures, you can get suspended for saying potty words?

Brilliant!

Break them some off

Okay, there is some stuff that I can tolerate, but when I can't get a truthful / scientfic reason for something I did wrong then that's were I draw the line. Of course, as I grow older I get more panzy by the day, but it would have still been more fun to break them some off like shouting directly into the phone the following words slowly:

- S**T

- F**K

- A*S

- B*T*CH

- W*ORE

- D**K

*Turns off language filter*

CUNT...

*Looks over his shoulder for the censorship fucks*

Okay I best stop. None the less, STFU EQ.
