Yeah, I lost. I knew early that I probably was. I had too may days were I was staring at the screen wondering how I wanted to phrase something. I ended this year with 45,454 words. Okay, technically I have no idea how many words I have. There are 44.5k in my .odt and the roughly 1k words I wrote today at work. About 15k of those words were written in the last five days. Here are some more numbers for you, there are currently 63 8.5x11 typed pages, 6 7x5 hand written pages, and 16 chapters (or 15 chapters and an epilogue...not sure). While the page count will grow, the chapter count won't (or shouldn't).

Posted on: 2010-11-08 02:15:44[ More - Add comment ]I had been planning to update a bunch on my NaNo progress, but I sidetracked myself. Just before NaNo kicked off, I started a post about all the dramatic changes Blizzard made to Holy Paladins in Warcraft. I got about half way through my post, got bored with it, saved it to draft, and never returned to it. I wanted to finish it before moving on, hence the lack of random word counts. I suck at updates anyways.

Posted on: 2010-10-25 03:19:16[ 2 comments ]I have not progressed nearly as well as I would like in my story planning. I blame WoW and my total lack of comprehension of time. I do have quite a bit planned out, possibly more than my previous three years. Still, I don't think I am ready. And in that vein, I am not sure I am going to do book 3 this NaNo. In fact, I think I am going to do book 1 again. I only got a little over 12k in the first time around, I am scraping some of that, and rewriting most of the rest, so why not? Besides, it feels weird talking about work on subsequent novels when the first one isn't done yet.

Posted on: 2010-10-11 02:24:37[ More - Add comment ]I have done next to nothing pertaining to my stories since my last post, well, nothing on paper (or .odt) at least. I have zero idea how the novel is going to end, but I have figured out a lot of the connecting scenes, who is where and why, and a possible third plot line that might get worked in to try and tie up some loose ends in book 2 and possibly lead into book 4.

Posted on: 2010-04-24 03:52:00[ More - 3 comments ]I think I need to work in 4 hour shifts as opposed to the 8 hour ones I work. It has nothing to do with work itself, but I have all these ideas for my stories that never get written down because the creative side of my brain gets worn out midway though my shift and gives up. Since I have no time to jot down notes, I just need shorter shifts. Simple.

NaNoWriMo Word Sprint Fun - Humor - NaNoWriMo - Stories
Posted on: 2009-12-01 02:51:34[ More - Add comment ]Today was the last official day of NaNoWriMo so you probably won't be hearing much more about it for awhile. But even though both the wife and I had already won, we did the word sprints today anyways. The idea of the sprints is pretty basic: they give an amount of time to write, and you see how much you can burn out. On occasion they toss in a suggestion to integrate into your story, which you can choose to use or ignore on your whim. Then they come back and ask for your results and if you used their suggestion.

It only took me three tries, but I won! I hit 50k about an hour ago. Well, the nano validation page registered 50K about an hour ago. According to Open Office, I hit 50k this morning, but the validate script on the Nano page didn't agree. It is not like I am going to stop writing just because I hit 50k...though I did stop long enough to do a little surfing and write this post. Reexamining where I am in my story and how much I know I have to go plus how much I think I have to go, I can see the end product being over 100-120k. Finishing the story aside, I have tons of work to do on the story. My physical descriptions need work, hell, my descriptions in general do. There are some rewrites to the first few chapters that need to be done to make it more in line with what I wrote afterwards. And I need to work on the tone of a couple of my characters, I think for the most part they are a little too generic and sound the same. Oh well, back to writing. I want to see how much I can get written before NaNoWriMo ends at midnight tomorrow.

Posted on: 2009-11-16 21:33:39[ More - Add comment ]If you have been paying attention to my word count, I have not been moving forward much with NaNo the last few days. There were a couple of reasons, I did a little work on the page, Damien came up for the weekend, we messed around in Grand Theft Auto 4 (I have played more in the last three days than I have since I bought the game almost a year ago.), but mostly, I was kind of stuck. The section I was working on, ended up being a lot longer than I thought it was going to be, but as I was going, it changed how I had seen the ending in my head. While I think it is going to be better now, I got a little lost between where I was and where I was going.

Posted on: 2009-11-13 05:30:39[ More - 2 comments ]I didn't work on NaNoWriMo today. It isn't that I am out of ideas, I just didn't feel like messing with it. Instead I cleaned. My little room is much, much cleaner. I moved most of the furniture around, gave the vacuum a workout, pitched a bunch of stuff, did some dishes, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember now. I also listened to several episodes of Buzz Out Loud (I am way behind).
