Yes. - Stories - Books - WoW - Work - Misc
Posted on: 2010-10-01 03:33:12

Yes, I have fallen behind in just about everything: the blog, the novels, my reading, the cleaning. But the bills are getting paid and I almost have another level 80 in WoW. In the last month or so, I have (re)discovered http://www.reddit.com/ and Irish whiskey (and Irish coffee), trained a couple of people at work, finished Little Brother and started Nineteen Eighty-Four. I finally threw out my old, worn, and rather disgusting Jinx AFK hat and purchased a couple of really plain hats off of the $2 clearance rack at Wal-Mart. And I have slept, at least once or twice. Speaking of sleep, I am gonna go do that now.

Sol & O Book 3 Cover - Books - Design
Posted on: 2010-03-14 23:18:44

The wife had me working on the cover for book 3, so she could finalize her proof copy. I figured I would share the images with you guys since you (unless you are Rook) probably won't be seeing it for some time. We kept the same basic layout, just changing the text, font color, and images. I am linking the front and back covers of the first book as well just for comparison. And lastly, there is the pic we did for NaNoWriMo '08.

We tried a couple of different things to get the arm right. I wanted to do kind of a 'green screen' technique, but that failed miserably. In the end, we took some shots of the wife's bare arm, and a few just of the shirt. Then about an hour of pen work, retouching, and hue/sat/lum playing and we had a dark elf arm. The stone arm took even less work: desaturate, apply texture, some blurring and messing with levels and it was done. The sleeve was actually the back of the shirt with some trimming and distorting. It could use a little more shadow work, but everything I did screamed fake.

Anyways, hope you enjoyed your little preview of sorts of book 3.

We all carry on. - Misc - WoW - Computer - Books - Twitter - Games

I am still really enjoying Windows 7. The only problem is that it lives on my laptop which I normally only interact with to play movies. I really want to run it on my desktop, but, at least for the moment, I don't have the space to partition out a new drive for it to live on and I have failed the few attempts I have made into getting it to run in a virtual machine. Oh well, if all goes well at tax time (waiting on one W-2) we might be able to budget a 1TB hard drive (which I am going to call Christmas from Mom and Dad since I spent the money they gave me for Chrsitmas on bills.) If that happens, I shouldn't have any reason to complain about storage for awhile and, after combining all our data on it, should have a spare harddrive or 4 to mess with.

I found my Bible. - Books
Posted on: 2008-10-02 12:33:48

So...we have been living here in Jasper for about a year, and there is one thing I have been missing. Ok, that is not true, there are a lot of things I have been missing...like Moggers, and 24 hour restaurants that are not Dennys. Anyways, I just found my Bible. Now I know what you are thinking, I am not really the Bible type. You are right, my beliefs don't require a book to show me how to behave and what to believe. Yes, that probably makes me a bad Christian, but it has been a very long time since I have claimed to be so I am not too worried.

Complacency 451 - Books
Posted on: 2007-09-11 01:49:27

It does not seem like it has been over two weeks since I posted. I have had tons of half thought ideas for posts. ...lots of deleted garbage... I have been "reading" this 150 page book for a couple of weeks...and I am only on page 94. Yes, I am a slow reader, but not near that slow. I can't seem to read more than 4-5 pages without stopping and reflecting about it relevence. With a few minor technological differences, it is really a picture of the modern world, and quite indirectly is totally about itself. ...more deleted garbage...

Breezewood and The Boy-Who-Lived-Under-An-Invisibility-Cloak - Books
Posted on: 2007-07-31 05:12:19

I have done more reading the past two weeks than I have in the past few months...maybe not playing an MMO is a good thing. First off, I finally got around to reading Breezewood: Birth of a Hero by Mike. Much to his surprise, I actually enjoyed it. It was obvious that it was a self-published, first novel set in the Dungeons and Dragons world...but none of those three things are bad. I could go into detail about what was wrong and right with the book, but I think it is more telling that I finished it in two sittings. I normally get far too distracted by mundane things to finish off books in short order.

Insert Title Here - Misc - Stuff - Books
Posted on: 2006-02-27 17:35:40

I cam home today from class with two cards in the mailbox from my parents...or one from the parents and one from the cat. I was opening up the one from Bo, the cat, and I noticed written in blue, EPH. 6:10-17. Now for the two people out there who would not recognize that, it is reference to the New Testament of the Bible with specific verses from Ephesians. Which, since I was at my desk when I started opening it, I just grabbed my bible and started flipping.
