Alvians get wasted at Alvistime, so quit oppressing us! - Humor - Television
Posted on: 2010-12-20 12:23:00

On a frosty winter's night a wagon appeared at the gates of Fort Klugman carrying pioneers to the frontier. A young woman in the party called Delia was heavy with child, and though she had journeyed with the virile young men for nigh on one year, none had lain with her; though she was comely. And on this frosty winter's night, young Delia's water broke almost freezing her to the seat of the wagon. And the pioneers beseeched the soldiers to grant them entrance so that she could give birth to her child in the hospital there. But, due to an outbreak of syphilis among the soldiers, the hospital was full. So there in the stable among the feed and tack and whatsit she gave birth to a son; whom she called Alvis. As was her want. And since none of the men in the party was the father, it was decided among them that the birth of this child must truly be a miracle! And it was so, for above the fort there suddenly and miraculously appeared an awesome and mighty comet! And so brilliant was its light that there came from all the tribes that the soldiers had not yet decimated: shamans! And they rode upon buffalo, as was their heathen custom, carrying offerings of whiskey and firearms. And when the shamans saw the child, they were in awe! For he glowed in a light that was truly not of this world!

NaNoWriMo Y4 D30: Loser! - NaNoWriMo - Stories
Posted on: 2010-12-01 01:08:47

Yeah, I lost. I knew early that I probably was. I had too may days were I was staring at the screen wondering how I wanted to phrase something. I ended this year with 45,454 words. Okay, technically I have no idea how many words I have. There are 44.5k in my .odt and the roughly 1k words I wrote today at work. About 15k of those words were written in the last five days. Here are some more numbers for you, there are currently 63 8.5x11 typed pages, 6 7x5 hand written pages, and 16 chapters (or 15 chapters and an epilogue...not sure). While the page count will grow, the chapter count won't (or shouldn't).

NaNoWriMo Y4 D8: My fault I am behind. - NaNoWriMo - Games - Stories - WoW
Posted on: 2010-11-08 02:15:44

I had been planning to update a bunch on my NaNo progress, but I sidetracked myself. Just before NaNo kicked off, I started a post about all the dramatic changes Blizzard made to Holy Paladins in Warcraft. I got about half way through my post, got bored with it, saved it to draft, and never returned to it. I wanted to finish it before moving on, hence the lack of random word counts. I suck at updates anyways.

NaNoWriMo Y4 D-7: The Backtrack - Games - NaNoWriMo - Stories
Posted on: 2010-10-25 03:19:16

I have not progressed nearly as well as I would like in my story planning. I blame WoW and my total lack of comprehension of time. I do have quite a bit planned out, possibly more than my previous three years. Still, I don't think I am ready. And in that vein, I am not sure I am going to do book 3 this NaNo. In fact, I think I am going to do book 1 again. I only got a little over 12k in the first time around, I am scraping some of that, and rewriting most of the rest, so why not? Besides, it feels weird talking about work on subsequent novels when the first one isn't done yet.

Alt + F4 - Misc - Computer - WoW
Posted on: 2010-10-13 03:47:45

I had this fairly long post last night about my addiction to not doing anything, well, any thing significant. I talked about how I couldn't really blame a WoW addiction or internet addiction or TV, because I would always find something else useless but interesting to take my attention. Of course, while writing it, I was watching a podcast. When the podcast was over, I clicked the window, then hit Alt + F4 (my two favorite keys), but instead of it closing my media player (that is what Alt + F4 does, by the way, invokes the 'Close Application' function in Windows), it closed EVERY open window. The media player, my browser (with my post), and two file managers (or two instances of the same file manager if you want to be picky). I was annoyed, so I went to bed. I totally forgot about it until I just fired up the page to post about WoW, and noticed it wasn't there. Exciting, I know. It is so exciting, that I am not going to post about WoW now, I am just going to go to bed. Maybe I will talk about the cluster fuck that are patch days tomorrow.

NaNoWriMo y4 d-21: Too early to start? - NaNoWriMo
Posted on: 2010-10-11 02:24:37

I have done next to nothing pertaining to my stories since my last post, well, nothing on paper (or .odt) at least. I have zero idea how the novel is going to end, but I have figured out a lot of the connecting scenes, who is where and why, and a possible third plot line that might get worked in to try and tie up some loose ends in book 2 and possibly lead into book 4.

Yes. - Misc - Work - WoW - Stories - Books
Posted on: 2010-10-01 03:33:12

Yes, I have fallen behind in just about everything: the blog, the novels, my reading, the cleaning. But the bills are getting paid and I almost have another level 80 in WoW. In the last month or so, I have (re)discovered http://www.reddit.com/ and Irish whiskey (and Irish coffee), trained a couple of people at work, finished Little Brother and started Nineteen Eighty-Four. I finally threw out my old, worn, and rather disgusting Jinx AFK hat and purchased a couple of really plain hats off of the $2 clearance rack at Wal-Mart. And I have slept, at least once or twice. Speaking of sleep, I am gonna go do that now.

Plotting Along. - Stories
Posted on: 2010-08-17 03:25:50

I have been slowly progressing on my stories the past week or so. Changes I wanted to make to the stories (some mentioned on the page, most not) pretty much required some overhauls to what I had written and what I had planned to write. Given the little I had actually written in book 1 (about 12k words), I figured I would start there. Essentially, I am re-plotting the entire book. I am about 9 chapters in, and I am expecting another 20 or so. I am hoping to be done plotting everything out by the end of August, so I got about 2 weeks.

Incentives Take 2 - Work
Posted on: 2010-08-06 03:02:26

Turnover is very high at work, especially during this time of year. It is hot outside, there are presses running between 300F and 400F every 15 feet or so which makes it even hotter, and you are tasked with maintaining a high level of production. I am guessing almost 300 people have been hired since I started, some stayed, most didn't (I have no idea how I have made it). Basically, the job is kinda hard (physically) and the heat makes is very hard. But with all this turnover, I find myself explaining how we get paid a lot. I have gotten pretty good at it, Gross pay is Base Pay + Overtime Pay + Attendance Bonus + Incentive Pay. Anyone who has had a job gets Base Pay and Overtime Pay immediately, Attendance Bonus is easy to pick up, and as long as I gloss over Incentive, they are fine.
